It’s official. Swindon is a great place to live and work.

Coate Water Care opened its first residential care home in Swindon in 1995 and now has three well-regarded care facilities in Wiltshire’s biggest town, just an hour from London. The family team behind Coate Water Care have always believed that our hometown is a great place to live and work, and it seems we are no longer alone.

A brand-new new survey by one of the world’s largest recruitment companies ranks Swindon as one of the very best places to work in Britain.

Glassdoor’s ‘Best UK Towns & Cities to Work In’ ratings are determined by weighing three factors: active job openings, cost of living, and job satisfaction. The 2017 results leave Swindon in an impressive fourth place, comfortably ahead of local rivals Reading (6th), Oxford (10th) and Bristol (22nd).

Mark Di Toro from Glassdoor says, “It’s no surprise to see Swindon up to 4th position this year. Unemployment levels are some of the lowest in the country, it’s one of the fastest growing towns in Europe, and it’s got fantastic road and rail links.”

Swindon also scores heavily when it comes to quality of life. “We have helped relocate new staff members here from all over the world as well as from other towns in the UK,” says Jamie Smith, Director at Coate Water Care, “and the general consensus is that Swindon’s a really welcoming town with a tremendous amount going for it.”

“It’s a thriving multicultural place and the fact that it finished so high in the survey - leaving dozens of more famous cities in its wake - is a testament to its many qualities,” he continues. “We’ve got some of the best retail outlets in Southern England, great restaurants, buzzing entertainment venues, and absolutely amazing parks and green spaces. As an added bonus, the cost of living here is much lower than in nearby places like Bristol, Bath and Oxford.”

Coate Water Care’s head office is based in Swindon, as are three of its seven residential care homes. Ashbury Lodge is a handsome red brick building with porticos just a stone’s throw from the picturesque lake at Coate Water Country Park, purpose-built Church View is located in sleepy Stratton St Margaret, and Downs View is nestled in rural Badbury with spectacular views to the Marborough Downs.

All three homes provide lovely working environments in what is now officially one of the UK’s best towns to work in. “We are always looking to recruit new care professionals for our residential homes in Swindon,” says Jamie Smith, “and there are a wide range of openings, not just for carers, nurses, and health care assistants, but for support areas as well - from managers and cooks to event organisers and gardeners.”

“If you are interested in working in one of Britain’s best towns and think you have what it takes to become part of an outstanding care team, we would love to hear from you.”
