Teatime is anytime as Coate Water Care home opens 24/7 coffee bar

They say a day without coffee is like a day without sunshine - in which case, the sun is always shining at Church View Care and Nursing Home in Swindon!

The purpose-built care home in leafy Stratton St Margaret celebrated the opening of its open-all-hours coffee shop with Deputy Mayor of Swindon Junab Ali, residents, care home staff, and Coate Water Care directors.

Delicious cakes, tasty paninis, jacket potatoes and hot drinks are on sale in the new space where the home’s 30+ residents can relax and spend time with their carers and family visitors.

Deputy manager Joanna Thomas has been delighted by the response to the newest facility at the welcoming care home. “There’s a big buzz around the home which is really nice,” she says. “Resident satisfaction is our priority and everybody is really happy with the new space”.

“We thought it would be nice to have somewhere for people to gather and socialise, so we had a meeting with all our residents and their families about what they would like to have at the home. Our maintenance man Vince Povey is the mastermind and master builder behind it all, he brought residents’ ideas to life in great style.”

“One of our residents, double-amputee Eric Watkins, has taken charge of the coffee shop, he runs it on a daily basis with our help, and then staff take over in the evenings.”

Church View Manager Peter Bullock is a former Army Medic whose CV also boasts a long stint making sure care homes were compliant for nationwide chains. Given that experience, it is fair to say he knows what makes an outstanding care home!

“Most of our residents are elderly and many of them are living with dementia,” he says, “so it’s really important to create a convivial atmosphere and organize activities that meet people’s individual needs and capabilities.”

“That can range from armchair aerobics to fetes and pampering sessions, but delicious home-cooked food is one of the things that gives residents most pleasure, that’s why our new coffee shop is such a great addition to the home.”
